Little known fact, standard poodles are working dogs. French gun dogs. The fancy trimming was originally to keep their joints warm in cold water during retrieves. Amazingly intelligent dogs.

I personally prefer to see them with a full coat.

Poodles are very smart dogs. Many smart dogs have weird characteristics. My wife's family had a long haired collie - not so smart, but a very nice dog. They had an old flint lock muscket hand gun in the house as an ornament. If anyone picked up the gun, Sherie (the dog) would go nuts!
