The lens has been designed from the ground up for wide-angle applications such as astrophotography, landscapes, weddings and interiors, and is available in L-Mount and Sony E-mount.
The lens has an advanced feature-set including an aperture ring with both lock and de-click functions, a customisable AFL button, a Manual Focus Lock switch, a rear filter holder, and a built-in Lens Heater Retainer to hold a heat strip firmly in place.
There’s also a newly redesigned front cap that securely locks onto the lens and features two compartments for storing sheet-type rear filters.
A MFL (manual focus lock) switch can be found on the side of the lens barrel. This allows astrophotographers to find infinity then switch the MFL switch to Lock, which completely disables the focus ring.
According to Sigma the lens delivers exceptionally impressive edge-to-edge performance across all apertures, even when shooting very challenging subjects such as the night sky.
The lens includes the Sigma TS-141 Tripod Socket, which ensures a more balanced set-up closer to the centre of gravity when mounted on a tripod.
An AFL button is also included on the lens barrel, which can be customised depending on the camera and system.
The lens is constructed of 19 elements in 15 groups (1 SLD, 3 FLD and 4 aspherical elements) and has 11 rounded diaphragm blades.
The angle of view is 114.2° and the minimum focussing distance is 30cm with a magnification ratio of 1:11.9.
The lens weighs a fairly hefty 1170g / 41.3 oz and measures φ101.4 × 149.9mm (diameter x length).
In the US the lens will cost $1,599.00 or £1399.99 in the UK. It should start shipping in late June 2023. Further details and sample images can be found on Sigma’s website.
