Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN Art Lens Announced

Following on the heals of the Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG-DN Art lens that was announced back in June, Sigma now brings us the Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN Art lens.

The lens will be available for Sony E-mount and L-mount and will retail for $1,499 in the US or £1399 in the UK.

You can already pre-order the lens but it won’t start shipping until the end of September 2024.

The new Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN Art lens has been designed with both still and video shooters in mind and features a de-clickable and lockable aperture ring. However, because it’s an external zoom lens it will not balance nicely on a gimbal unless you fix the focal length.

Sigma claims that its ‘High-response Linear Actuator’ autofocus motor will provide ‘noise-free video capability’ and the lens also exhibits ‘minimal’ focus breathing.

The lens is built with 18 elements arranged in 13 groups, including two fluorite-like ‘F’ low dispersion (FLD) elements, one super low dispersion (SLD) element, and five aspherical lenses. The front element features a water- and oil-repellent coating, and Sigma states that the lens is dust and splash-resistant for added durability.

There are 12 (rounded) aperture blades and the minimum focusing distance is 40cm / 15.8 in. with a maximum magnification of 1:3.1 at 105mm. There’s an 82mm filter thread at the front of the lens.

The E-mount version of this lens weighs 990g / 34.9 oz, making it about 160g / 5.6 oz heavier than Sigma’s 24-70mm F2.8 DG-DN lens for E-mount, which weighs 830g / 9.0oz. It measures 87.8 x 159.9mm / 3.5 x 6.3 in.
