Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG-DN Art Lens Announced

The Sigma 24-70 F2.8 DG DN II was only announced back in May and now Sigma is already bringing us the Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG-DN Art lens.

The lens will be available for Sony E-mount and L-mount and will retail for $1349 US or £1299 in the UK.

You can already pre-order the lens but it won’t start shipping until the end of June 2024.

The new Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG-DN Art lens has been designed with both still and video shooters in mind.

Sigma has set very high expectations for this lens by claiming it exceeds the performance of its own 24mm F1.4 DG DN and 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art prime lenses.

To achieve this the lens has an optical formula that includes three aspherical and five SLD (super-low dispersion) elements sitting in front of an 11-bladed aperture.

Sigma promises that the lens will deliver excellent performance wide open at f/1.8 and it has been designed specifically to suppress longitudinal chromatic aberration.

With such a fast aperture this is most definitely not a small lens. In Sony E-mount the lens measures φ87.8mm x 153.4mm / φ3.5in. x 6.0in. and weighs in at 950g / 33.5oz.

Autofocus is driven by an HLA (high-response linear actuator) motor to provide quick and fast AF, and Sigma says the optics are designed to minimize breathing when focusing.

The lens features an internal zoom design so it does not extend, making it more gimbal friendly.

There’s also lockable aperture ring, a click/de-click switch allowing for clickless aperture changes and two customizable buttons.

The minimum focus distance is 30cm (11.9″) across the entire zoom range, and the lens has a maximum magnification of 1:4.

The filter thread size is 82mm and Sigma says that the lens is dust and splash-resistant.
