The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens is Sigma’s their first mirrorless zoom for crop sensor cameras like the Sony a6400.
The lens has a full-frame equivalent focal range of 27-75mm and combines exceptional versatility with an ultra small and light body.
The lens measures just 75mm (2.9″) at 18mm, so there’s no need to extend the lens before it can be used. The minimum focussing distance is 12.1cm (4.8″) at the wide end of its range, giving a maximum magnification ratio of 2.8:1.
The lens is constructed of 13 elements arranged in 10 groups, with one SLD super-low dispersion element and three aspherical elements.
A stepper motor is used for focus, which according to Sigma should result in fast, near silent operation for both stills and video shooting.
As well as Sony E-mount the lens is also available for the Leica/Panasonic/Sigma L-mount.
The new lens will be available from 29 October 2021 for around $549 US or £429.99 in the UK.
Further details can be found on Sigma’s product page for the lens here.
