Sony has announced a new compact shotgun microphone that takes full advantage of the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe found in cameras like the Sony a7 IV.

The ECM-B10 receives its power through the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe and is also able to directly transfer the digital audio signal for high-quality sound without degradation or the need for cables.

It weighs in at only 74 grams / 2.6 oz with a length of just 3.1″, making this a much smaller and more compact alternative to the larger Sony ECM-B1M microphone.
Here’s a short introduction to the ECM-B10 from Sony.
The Sony ECM-B10 features a low-cut filter and a noise-suppression filter can be engaged to reduce distracting background sounds.

The microphone is both dust and moisture-resistant and is supported on Sony cameras that are equipped with a Multi Interface Shoe (MI), this currently includes the a1, a7SIII, a7R IV, a7IV, a7C and ZVE10.
Here’s the Sony ECM-B10 mounted on the Sony A7C, it looks like it was made for this camera!

I’m currently using the Rode Video Mic Pro myself but have to admit to being quite tempted by the ECM-B10. Eliminating the cables and need for a battery is definitely a big plus providing it delivers on the sound front.
