Sony has announced the World’s first telephoto zoom lens designed for wedding, portrait, indoor sports, photo and video professionals with a focal length of 50-150mm and a constant maximum aperture of F2.

The Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM lens costs $3,898.00 in the US, £3,799.00 in the UK and €4,400 in Europe.
The lens is already available to pre-order in the UK and Europe and pre-orders start at 10:00am ET, Wed Apr 23 in the US. First deliveries are planned for the end of May.
The new lens is the same 200mm (7.9″) length as Sony’s current 70-200mm F2.8 OSS GM II lens but it is 17% wider, at 103mm (4.1″).
Despite being a whole stop faster than the 70-200mm GM II, it’s only 30% heavier, weighing in at 1340g (47.27oz).
The lens is constructed from 19 elements in 17 groups. There are 2 XA ‘extreme’ aspherical elements, 2 aspherical elements, 2 Super ED and 3 ED elements. There’s also an 11 blade circular aperture.
Just like the 70-200 GM this is an internal zoom lens with a very short throw zoom ring.
Four ‘XD’ high-thrust linear motors are used to drive focus and it supports the A9 III’s blistering 120fps.
Minimum focus distance is 0.4m (15.7″) at the wide end and 0.74m (29.1″) at the long end.
The 50-150mm F2 takes 95mm filters and Sony says these must have an outside diameter of 99.4mm or less if you wish to fit the included hood at the same time.
