Sony has quietly released updated versions of the a7R III and a7R IV cameras. The model numbers are now named ILCE-7RM3A and ILCE-7RM4A (they have gained an A).
The updated models feature just two small updates:
- The rear LCD has been changed from a 1.44 million dots model to one with 2.36 million dots and the logo underneath the LCD has been removed.
- The definition of USB has been changed to “SuperSpeed USB 5Gbps (USB 3.2), it was previously USB 3.1
This means that the a7R III and a7R IV now have better LCD’s than Sony’s flagship A1 which features the older 1.44 million dot LCD. It is strange that Sony didn’t include the 2.36 million dot LCD in their A1 which only started shipping in March.
Sony also released an updated a7R III feature video:

Absolutely love the higher screen resolution (coming from an A7III)
Only setback (at the time of writing this) is the lack of ARW support on my Mac (Preview, Lightroom…) so need to use Sony ImageEdge Desktop to export (so slow…).

When are the A7R models with the new screen going to ship? Any idea?

Sorry Kirby I don’t have this information. I’d suggest asking your local store. Although I can’t see ILCE-7RM3A or ILCE-74M4A coming up in any stock searches yet.
