Tamron has announced the development of a new 20–40mm F2.8 Di III VXD zoom lens for Sony full-frame E-mount cameras like the Sony a7 IV.
The lens that Tamron says is targeted at vlogger’s should be available later this year for a currently undisclosed price.
Tamron has not provided a full list of lens specifications at this time but they have provided a few key details.
The 20-40mm focal length offers a fast maximum aperture of F2.8 across the complete zoom range.
The lens will feature Tamron’s Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive (VXD) linear motors for fast tracking of moving subjects.
The 20-40mm F2.8 also features excellent close-up shooting capabilities, with a minimum focussing distance of just 0.17m (6.7 in) at 20mm and 0.29m (11.4 in) at 40mm.
Tamron has made the 20-40mm F2.8 smaller and lighter and it measures just 86.5mm (3.4 in) in length and weighs just 365g (12.9 oz).
The zoom ring rotation arc is just 65º for quick zooming in and out. By utilizing Tamron’s Lens Utility app you will also be able to adjust the focus ring function and update the lens firmware.
Like the majority of Tamron’s mirrorless lenses you’ll find a 67mm filter thread at the front of the lens.
Tamron says that the lens features improved texture and scratch resistance and also features a ‘moisture-resistant construction’ as well as a fluorine coating on the front most lens element to repel debris, dust and water.
As soon as we receive further information on this lens you’ll be the first to know.
You can details of all of Tamron’s lenses in our Tamron E-Mount Lenses Guide.
