Tamron 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD Lens Announced

Tamron has announced their latest full-frame Sony E-mount lens and this time it’s the 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD lens.

The lens will be available for Sony E-mount and L-mount and will retail for $1349 US or £819 in the UK.

You can already pre-order the lens but it won’t start shipping until the end of June 2024.

The Tamron 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD is yet another super versatile lens from Tamron in a fairly small package.

The lens is constructed of 19 elements in 14 groups  including two XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and two LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements, that efficiently control aberrations such as chromatic aberrations. Additionally BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating suppresses ghosting and flare to let you capture every detail of your subject, even under backlit conditions.

There’s a 9 blade circular diaphragm that delivers beautifully smooth bokeh and the minimum focusing distance is just 0.22m (8.7in) for a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 50mm wide end. Even at the 300mm telephoto end, the MOD is just 0.9m (35.4in), achieving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1. 

The Tamron 50-300mm is one of the lightest lenses in its class weighing in at just 665g (23.5oz) and measuring 78mm (3.07in)in diameter x 150mm (5.9in) in length at 50mm, it does extend out when you zoom in.

The lens is also equipped with TAMRON’s VC mechanism to effectively suppress camera shake and allow you to shoot at slower shutter speeds if required and still deliver razor sharp images.

Like many of Tamron’s lenses you’ll find the popular 67mm filter thread size on this lens.

For greater protection when shooting outdoors, leak-resistant seals throughout the lens barrel help protect your equipment. Also, the Connector Port is the water-proofed USB Type-C variety.
