I thought I'd better get my act together and get some photos posted up on here. I have been spending so much time lately researching and trying (largely unsuccessfully) different methods to try to improve my Milky Way shots that I have quite a backlog of post processing to do.

I went out to the airport, which isn't far from here, a few weeks ago mainly to try videoing hand held with my 50-400 lens. Let's say that I learned a few things. Anyway I took a few photos also. This is the first one I liked. There will be a few more on here shortly. I have actually done an A4 print of this on my new printer which looks really good. Jetstar is the budget leg of QANTAS. This is one of their Airbus A321 neo jets. I believe QANTAS are taking delivery of a number of these soon also.

An Australian Ibis that decided to get in on the act, quite amusingly.

Try a slower shutter speed on the propped aircraft. With a bit of panning practice you can get a nice blur on the prop and still have the aircraft sharp. I like to use 1/250 to 1/320. The composition is great!

I really am not much into planes but I looked through the lot of these and enjoyed each one so well done.

This was a bit of a practice session to be honest. I tried lower shutter speeds but I couldn't get the planes sharp enough. I need a bit more practice panning but I wasn't too unhappy that I at least got a bit of prop blur. I have been meaning to go out there again but It's either been too hot or the planes have been landing from the other direction which doesn't have a very good view. Practice makes perfect I guess.

Thanks Ralph. I put the ibis pic in especially for you.

Thanks for the White Ibis shot as it is a good one. Sadly in Mildura we don't get a lot of planes and as you did say the weather here has been way to hot to even bother going out. Sun Stroke is not fun.

Yeah, it's warmed up here again. It was 36º the last 2 days. I need to do a bit of research & get out to the airport when there are some more exotic international flights coming or going. There was an interestingly liveried Malaysian flight that I took a photo of sitting at the end of the runway waiting to take off but I was in a position that was really only good for landing flights at the time. Anyway, I'll put a pic of it up on here later on. I also wouldn't mind getting out there around dusk sometime. Do you ever get the RFDS planes coming into Mildura?

As promised.
