So I had the wisdom to leave the window open a little this morning for some cleaner shots. Just the adult male this time and a little light rain so I played around with the shutter speed a bit.

Much better. It really doesn't pay to put a $5 piece of window glass in front of $8500 worth of camera gear!

I think that the 1/125th photo looks better than the 1/500th. Maybe it's the stretched out droplets and the better light. I would have never guessed that if I were in the moment shooting. Great shots!

I like to play around with the shutter speed in the rain. Usually 1/125th and slower results in some nice rain trails but like Tim said it can vary depending on the speed of the rain. You also need the bird to keep really still at those shutter speeds and they don't always oblige!
