Birds Birds Non-BIF Thread - Post Your Shots Here

First image is fab
Thanks Kev, yes, the first image came out great but just not enough reach using the 24-70mm lens for the second one, he was too far away. Needless to say, it is a heavy crop.

Thanks Terry. Yes I managed to get quite close, this little guy was fearless.

Most areas around me you can get within 10-15 feet or 3-5 meters. The American Robin is basically the suburban version of the Rock Dove.

Constructive criticism/advice welcome - Thank you.

Alright, another Grebe :D This time its the Horned Grebe. Quite rare bird here so wery happy that a couple have choosen a pond here. Pretty sure i also did see a nest, so hoping to see some chicks soon. It's vulnerable, with only estimated 6,400-9,200 pairs in Europe. Norwegian population estimated to 650 pairs in 2015 and declining.

A catch of the day for the cormorant, and a greater catch of the day for me! Been hoping to get a shot or two of a cormorant with a fish and today it finally happened. He was in the middle of the lake and not all that far from my deck, which made it possible to get decent shots. When I saw this one, the cormorant perfectly executing "the Reznick Flip," (term coined by photographer Ron Reznick some years ago), I was ecstatic. This is a maneuver used by herons, egrets, cormorants and other water birds to position their catch by flipping it in the air so that it will then land at the right angle in the mouth in order to be ready to slide on down the gullet. Shot with my beloved A1 and 200-600mm lens plus 1.4x TC. In post-processing I used Gigapixel to upscale 2x so that I'd be able to crop in really closely to showcase the subject.

really good timing!

Thank you! I have my wonderful Sony gear to thank for that! :) I keep the A1 set in Continuous High + and 20 fps, and that works well. I shoot the birds primarily in burst mode, and sometimes this really pays off. One major issue, though, is that I have the tendency to keep my finger on the shutter button for probably too long at a time as I get so interested in what I'm seeing happening through the EVF. Result? LOTs and lots of images to then look through, cull and edit! When I was reviewing them and saw the image I shared here, I knew right then that this was "the" shot, the special one, and wasted no time in immediately editing it. I'm really chuffed about this!
