What focusing method are you using?

Yep, another bird this week! This is an Eastern Kingbird who has been hanging around the neighborhood lately; he seems to like perching on one of the chains on the pier!

So yesterday I came across what appear to be a first my area which was both cool and then cool and sad. So this is the first known case of proof of the Common Merganser breading in my area. Not a great phot but you can see I was shooting through a lot of brush/trees. Shortly after this was taken there was a large splash and a lot of angry sounding noises coming from the adult. What happened (I was able to see this slightly) was a large raptor grabbed one of the ducklings (cool and sad) and to my shock it was an Osprey and not one of the local Bald Eagles. It isn't unheard of for an Osprey to grab a small bird but extremely unusual for it to be done in an area with a large abundance of fish.

Clearly an Osprey carrying something that isn't a fish. This was taken through a small gap in trees after a short run with just hope it would appear through the opening. Rare case of A1 focus failing me.

Medium Format Shots of Barred Owls - I was able to photograph a few owls today. The wind had them nervous but they stayed planted on their perch. Image taken in South Florida on June 18, 2024. Camera: FujiFilm GFX 100ii and the GF 500mm f5.6. I'm really liking this new lens and look forward to shooting birds in-flight.View attachment 63097

Went to RSPB Radipole (Weymouth, Dorset) a few days ago to test out the A1 firmware update 2.02 after having serious focus problems with 2.01. The problem now seems to be solved. I’ve attached a few shots taken. The last one is an interesting pose from a Grey Heron which was trying to cool down as it was gular fluttering as well. The others are young Sand Martins which were coming quite close to the blind.
