Thanks! I find crescents and half moons are easier to get good results with compared to full moon because the craters give me something to focus on (pun intended).

Yes, you get some shadows along that edge which makes it a bit more interesting. Were you hand holding this or on a tripod?

Tripod this time. Even with vibration compensation, this lens and subject are better taken with tripod

Yep! Wish I had a longer lens to document it though.

You could do a composite across the frame of the different stages from start to finish. I think that looks great. We have a total eclipse later in the year & that’s what I’m planning on doing.

Also, on a bit of a tangent, I have an old Tasco reflector telescope which I found all the lenses for when I had a bit of a cleanup recently. Need to investigate fitting my camera body to it.

Don't worry I am sure it will be cloudy but also it takes place at like 2am.

Not 100% happy with this. I used the 600mm with the 2X TC. In hindsight, it's probably too much magnification and weight for my tripod head to handle.

I wonder if the 200 - 600 would be a better option, being that much lighter? Or maybe, I should invest in a much more substantial head.

It did look magnificent.

Apologies in advance for the cellphone photo, but I saw this a few days ago and want to know how to best capture it with my camera:

• Galaxy S23+
• 7.0 mm
• ƒ/2.4
• 1/15 sec
• ISO 1600

This was March 1st, 1 day after new moon phase, and so low to the horizon that when I had put the kid to sleep and came outside with a6700 and 50-300mm, the moon had already set below horizon.

Specifically, I love the fact that there's an outline to the moon that makes it look like an eclipse. It's not just long exposure either, because I could see it with naked eyes. Was this because of the phase, proximity to horizon, or time of day (just after sunset)? If there's no clouds in the way, I'd love to try again, this time with my Sony, after the next new moon (March 29th).
