Birds Birds in Flight Thread - Post Your Shots Here

Some more Red Kites from Watlington Hill. The last 3 shots are my favourites.
Another beautiful set. Nice interesting angles, great focus as usual, truly magnificent bird when soaring. I liked #1, 4, & 8. Appears another productive day for you. Nice job!

Thanks very much Mike. They are fast becoming our most prevalent raptor having been brought back from extinction in this country by a re-introduction programme. I se them most days now. Fabulous birds.

A follow on From Kev i did not get such nice sky shots but got them on ground which is always enjoyable a little different ,starting wish for A1 or A9 in some situations could do with out the black out ,also dropped the 10fps to 8 fps to get real live view ,anyway still got some shots i was happy with

Regardless of whether sky or low-level shots, these birds are absolutely gorgeous, magnificent creatures! And Paul, your angles and color depth are amazing. Both you and Kev have captured the breath-taking flight action maneuvers of these marvelous birds. Both of you guys' photos seem so real, as if the viewer is right there w the Kites. The lighting and angles make them look 3-dimensional. Spectacular! You guys' pics qualify for Nat'l Geographic Magazine IMO. Beautiful action shots as these colorful flyers go thru their flight paces! (y)

P.S. - I hope that my many years of full-lotus sitting meditation will escalate my proclivity for reincarnating to a Bald Eagle or Red Kite in my next life time.

Oh yes magnificent birds and really swift in flight when they want to be ,but they have become the seagull of oxfordshire ,i think the locals have come to dislike them .

Sounds like the "locals" may need some professional help. Who wouldn't feel fortunate to have these lovely memorizing birds around to gaze at. Unless of course, the ill-tempered Kites are feeding on the local's young children.,,,,, :D

Cracking shots Paul. I can only imagine black out is much worse on the R3, as I never notice it on the RIV, I have no idea of what it is, certainly nothing that affects my shooting anyway. I need to go back to Watlington to get some low angles like these. Top stuff.

Blackout is mechanical shutter kev ,the 10 fps on r4 and r3 is last frame in the view finder which means your always notice your subject moving out of frame when panning ,ok when subject is moving towards you though .Doubt they are any different with regards to blackout ,one reason to get a stacked sensor camera not end of the world just a niggle.

I've never noticed it at all.

Awesome shots Paul! Definitely one of my favourite birds. You could always use a dot sight, no blackout at all then! :) Although you run the risk of a few shots out of focus if the tracking doesn't lock on and you don't realise it.

Pardon me? Do you have any Grey Poupon? One for our American friends. One of many Red Kite shots from Watlington yesterday. I'll post more when I've processed them.

One of the things I admire of the UK is its "highways and byways" which are perfect for country rambles.

This thread is dedicated to birds in flight images.

Here's one of a red kite at Bwlch Nant yr Arian (mid Wales) just to get the ball rolling.

Shot with the a7III + 200-600.

Thank you. Lovely shot too Ashok!

The majestic Wedge-tailed Eagle of Australia.
I know these are not as good as others posts but I am heading in the right direction with them.
My thanks got to the people here who I have tried to copy their settings.
I need to make them a little faster and I think I will be far closer and a better day to add to it also.
But these are my best I think I have taken of in flight shots.

Not bad, you can't do much when the sky is like that.
