Mine changed several times this year depending where in the world I was.

yes, when I’ve posted while travelling abroad I’ve noted the flag changed to represent the country I was in. But I’m still in London, so no idea why my isp/flag France/romania?

Why has the flag associated with me suddenly turned French?

It's IP based. So if you use a VPN or something like iCloud Private Relay or another form of private browsing then you might see a different country flag.
