hi everyone been shooting mirrorless from 2017 with Fuji xt2 then moved to Fuji xh2 with 16-80 and 50-140 2.8 but finding it slow to focus so changed to sony A7 1V graham

Welcome aboard. How are you liking the Sony since your change? much quicker and more accurate autofocus I'm sure.

Hi correct it is much faster only had it 4 days but i can see the diference and thats with the 28-70 lens need one for birds so saving
thinking 70-200 f4 11

Many many full frame bird photographers here. I'm no expert on that, but have a look through the bird threads and look at the meta data on the photos to see what lenses they are using:

Thank you Chris i've had a quick look but 600mm and the rest are out of my league i'm watched over by my loving wife
got to save quietly but will get there thanks Graham

If you're interested in a more modestly priced zoom...
  • Consider a used Sony 70-300 or Tamron 70-300mm.
  • More recently, Tamron came out with a 50-300, which I have found to be a great value for money.
  • Next tier up from that would be the Sony 70-350, which is an APSC lens, so not terribly expensive, and if you get a used copy it won't break the bank.
  • Tamron's 50-400 might be what you ultimately want for bird photography, and would certainly be cheaper than a Sony 70-200 with Sony Teleconverter.
Though I completely understand the ever-watchful eye of a fiscally responsible wife :ROFLMAO: 🍻
