As mentioned before I was lucky enough to score tickets to Miami's Formula 1 race last weekend. This was my first time ever spectating at a track event. Armed with the A6700, Tamron 70-300, a baby carrier and 23lb toddler on my back, my wife and I thoroughly explored the grounds before settling in for the drivers parade and the actual race from our seats near turn 18.

A mural dedicated to Senna:

and one track worker who represented the country that would take podium with the good old Union Jack:

Now for some warm up action. I did not know what settings to use, so mistakes were made as I chimped and adjusted.

1/250 was not quite fast enough for my tastes

It really wasn't until 1/1000 that I felt confident in the photos since I didn't have a good amount of space to pan my lens without interrupting my wife on my left or the spectator sitting to my right.

Nice. You get any of the VCaRB of whatever they are calling the team Danny and Yuki are on?

Ahh Alpha Tauri ?
I'll look, most of my pictures of the midfield pack were pretty blurry.

@iamdlewis I got Yuki, but not Danny. Pity too, I like watching Ricciardo on Drive to Survive but he wasn't that impressive on track last weekend.

Nice shots Chris! I'm not sure how I missed these earlier. Panning is always tricky in close quarters. What was the sound like?

Amazing! not deafening, but we still had ear protection for the little one, and a fan because it was a hot day!
I am keen to go next year, and we'll leave Isla at home with a babysitter haha 😄

They did a nice job with that VCRB livery for the race. F1 is just better with Danny on the grid.

Great stuff. Would have loved to go to an F1 race back in the day, not so much now, I've lost all interest in it.

I'm a relatively new fan, and there are a lot of new fans (like me) who were brought in by Netflix's docu-series "Drive to Survive".

I know it isn't that close to you but if you want to go to an event to practice at an IMSA event is the way to go. In your greater region they have the 24hrs of Daytona in Jan, the 12hrs or Sebring in Feb and at Road Atlanta (actually in Troy, GA) the Petit Le Mans (10hrs) in Oct. I know the Petit Le Mans has 3 support races, multiple practice sessions qualifying and several clubs that take the track (Corvette, Cadillac, Porsche, Lexus and more), so basically endless opportunities to practice. Also the events are far cheaper.

Sebring is probably the closest. I have a friend that might do a few NASA HPDE clinics in the near future. That could mean maybe going with him to Sebring or Homestead (which is the closest track and the only one I've personally driven). If those materialize, I'll be sure to post pictures.
