I wasn't quite sure where to post this as there doesn't seem to be a "Printing" topic.

Anyway, I picked up my new Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 printer on Tuesday and I have just used the last drop of Light Cyan on my old Epson Stylus R2880. So I have some setting up and testing to do over the next few days. One of my main decisions I still have to make is what paper I am going to use for my first A2 print.

Think you should go with a matte (230-250g) unless you want to go really silly and then a nice Metallic Pearl. The bamboo seems a little thin. Glossy looks nice but then you hang it and the reflections just kill it.

I have been thinking more like one of the Hahnemuhle or Ilford Gallerie Baryta Lustre papers. I do have a few sheets of Hahnemuhle Photo Rag matte in A4 which I will definitely try. I think I also have some Bamboo in A4 left over from a sample pack. I have never tried a Metallic paper but I'd like to give it a go.

When metallic paper works it can be really nice but it is just so difficult to know when it works. They say the B&W works best with the metallic paper but I had two small prints made (sent out) as tests and neither seemed to do anything.

Do you know what brand of paper was used? A place here, which is probably the go to place in Australia for buying "art" papers has a list of their favourites and for Metallic it is Ilford Gallerie Metallic Gloss.

I'd probably go with a Ilford Gold Fibre paper. It used to be just Gold Fibre Silk (a satin finish), and I used it by preference, but that was discontinued, and now they have Gold Fibre Gloss, Gold Fibre Pearl, and the newer Gold Fibre Rag. The Gold Fibre papers are all baryta papers.

Congratulations on the upgrade from the R2880. I have used the P900, and liked it a lot, but printing is something you have to do regularly, and I just don't have the time to any more.

I've got this thing set up today. It is a massive printer. Very solid.

I think the Ilford Gallerie Gold Fibre Pearl is looking pretty good for my first attempts at A2. Unfortunately, the gloss version isn't available in A2 at the moment. I have found 15 sheets of Canon Photo Paper Plus Semi Gloss which I'll use for initial testing. It has quite a nice finish. I also have a few sheets of A3+ Photo Paper Pro Platinum Gloss as well somewhere. And I have nearly a full box of both Ilford Smooth Pearl and Smooth Gloss in A3+ as well.

Don't know they don't list options for the metallic.

Think I still have like 500 sheets of that back from when I had a printer
