What Do I Get if I Win?
I'm afraid now it's just the joy of taking park, but I will look into adding a special profile banner to winners profiles. In the past there have been vouchers for 1st and 2nd places, but we want to try and encourage people to enter without dangling a voucher code in front of them. Let's see if there's much of an impact this month!

Saying goodbye to the Milky Way core for 2024. Western end of The Oaks beach near Cape Paterson. Foreground light painted with a single LED light panel at 25% power. The glow on the cliff sky line is from the lights at Cape Paterson.

Friday night, 11-1-24, Friends University Men's soccer team played in Wichita, Kansas after dark. I placed my Sony A7R4 camera on a monopod, set the shutter speed at 1/2000 second, set the ISO on "auto" and my Sony 300mm telephoto lens on F2.8. My goal was to stop action and prevent the ball from blurring when the players sent it flying over 80 MPH. The depth of field with my 300mm Master lens was so outstanding that all eleven players are crisp and clear and the colors of their uniforms was magnificent. The Sony 300mm Master telephoto is the best lens I have ever owned during the seventy years I have enjoyed photography. Hope you enjoy my image. (P. S. I apologize for not being able to find where I could uploading a full image rather than a thumbnail.) Shooter41

Friends or Lovers?
I just posted this in the city scape thread, but then realised it was a good candidate for the 'After Dark' competition. Hope that's OK.

Beautiful reflection night-shot.

After covering over 6300km around the North and South Islands of New Zealand I have just less than a week to go, At the very start of my road trip I created this Auckland cityscape with the light trail leading us towards the city and the Sky Tower.

I took this in Sydney (obviously) when I was there recently. It was taken about half an hour after sunset when the super moon was rising next to the opera house. The blur is a rivercat ferry sailing into Circular Quay.

I know this is the competition thread, but I have to ask, why are they waiting for fruit bats?
They are very large bats and come over that bay every night in the thousands. Spectacular with the sunset in the background, although they often come over after sunset which is a shame!
