Hah alright Mike, I think that's also a fair suggestion.

Cheers Mike. I'll give this a go next month! The theory of Chris' suggestion sounds good, but I suggest modifying it somewhat: ie. Make entry dates from Jan 1st thru Jan 15th and then close entries. From Jan 16th thru Jan 28th will be the voting window only. This way the voting window is longer and all entries are now available for 13 days.
For the possible argument that only 15 days would restrict the entry time period, my argument would be to buy a faster lens for the competition.
Portfolio?I wanna be like Mike and Malcom one of these days: Competition comes up "Oh I have the perfect picture in my portfolio for this..."
I know you're kidding, but actually, as I told Tim in a PM, I chose sunsets to encourage more participation in the competition that Tim has worked hard at to muster interest and practice amongst forum members. Since sunrise/sunsets are readily available to everyone, regardless of location, I hoped it would improve participation and voting.I wanna be like Mike and Malcom one of these days: Competition comes up "Oh I have the perfect picture in my portfolio for this..."
That's the drawer on LEFT side of desk where you keep pictures. The RIGHT drawer is Starboardolio. I know, these are new terms for you.Portfolio?
I actually really enjoyed your choice this month! It was a great excuse to scout a new spot that I had spotted on my drone a few months back. I will get many more chances to get my ideal sunset shot there.I know you're kidding, but actually, as I told Tim in a PM, I chose sunsets to encourage more participation in the competition that Tim has worked hard at to muster interest and practice amongst forum members. Although I have some doubts about Alaska and South Africa, since they're so far from the equator I'm not sure if the sunlight reaches that far.
P.S. -- I voted for you.
You always have to throw those big words around, don't you? That's the drawer on LEFT side of desk where you keep pictures. The RIGHT drawer is Starboardolio. I know, these are new terms for you.
Absolutely agree. While the lack of a theme leaves us a bit unfocused this month (unintentional pun); We should all take advantage of it and post an entry. This is a repost from January of this year I have been lucky in winning a couple of times and I think Tim deserves our support the latest theme is an open one so should give everyone a great chance like I said previously there is some great work out there so come on guys give Tim our support .
I was lucky enough to be the December winner. I would encourage all members to participate in the coming months ahead. Tim is doing a great job in getting this all up and running and I feel he needs our support and it also builds a good community spirit. So come on folks we see your work in all the other forums and there are some stunning shots amongst them. So let's get going in 2021 take care and stay safe
I know Ed, 4 well actually 5 entries is a rather disappointing turnout to be honest. I have pinned the competitions to the top of the Open Talk Forum which normally gets the most reviews, but even that doesn't seem to have helped much. I'll have to look into whether I can create a notification for when the competitions go live, that might help. Thanks for the feedbackHi Tim, I like the idea of a competiton for the non-pro members. Only problem is I only learnt about it today, 24 May, so well past the closing date. It looks like there are only 4 entries, so perhaps most of the others also didn't know about it. Same goes for the voting, so probably most membres still don't know about it. Might be an idea to publicise it more and in advance of the opening date. Nice idea though.
I forgot to say that you can also watch a forum and receive alerts when I post a new monthly competition. Just go to the Non-Pro Members Competition Forum and click on the "Watch" button.Hi Tim, I like the idea of a competiton for the non-pro members. any possibility of a "banner ad" style notification on the top of the forum pages below the navigation ribbon?I know Ed, 4 well actually 5 entries is a rather disappointing turnout to be honest. Yes. I should be able to do something like that. I know the competitions definitely need more prominence.any possibility of a "banner ad" style notification on the top of the forum pages below the navigation ribbon?
HI Tim, just a question for clarification, can anyone vote for the entries in the non-pro competition and can only pro-members vote for entries in the pro competition?
Many thanksAnyone can vote for anything.
Hey Ed. Both pro members and non-pro members should be able to vote in both comps. Please let me know if that's not the case for you.HI Tim, just a question for clarification, can anyone vote for the entries in the non-pro competition and can only pro-members vote for entries in the pro competition?
Hi Berny the metadata will be baked into your photo upload it to the site when it is up click on the image and you will see it on the right hand side of the uploadwould you mind please explaining how to include exif data?
After processing my raw file and exporting as a TIFF file or JPEG file I cannot see any exif data when I click 'properties' in my file manager.
By default, most editing software keep the camera and lens information intact but there are users out there who (for whatever personal reason) edit their export settings to exclude this information.Would you mind explaining:

Thank you.

I'm using darktable 4.8.1. I can export as a 16 bit TIFF or 8 bit JPEG.@Berny Emm both of your test submissions lack metadata.
Can you describe how you are editing and exporting your photos? Something seems amiss.
I found the problem. My raw file editor (darktable 4.8.1) does not save exif by default. It's an option that has to be set before exporting the image. It's not something I've ever used before.@Berny Emm both of your test submissions lack metadata.
