I am thinking of buying a SIGMA 24-70/2.8 lens for Sony E-mount. From the reviews, it seems to be a top quality lens. I saw a YouTube comparison video with Sony 24-70/2.8. Honestly it beats Sony lens at half the price.

Will appreciate any feedback.

It does this sort of thing very nicely:

  • 70.0 mm
  • ƒ/11
  • 1/1250 sec
  • ISO 800

But I'm not so keen on its performance away from the sunshine.

Is Sony 24-70/2.8 GM II better? Going back, would you have bought that in stead?

I had settled to the fact that I am not in that income group, and, even if the money was in the bank, it was not an appropriate spend.

So much for being sensible. I cannot tell if it would have better for my purposes, but I suspect it would. And, a month or two later, the bank balance would have covered it. Appropriate or not!

Added to the general economic consideration, it was always going to be a lesser-used lens anyway. I'm almost always using 85 or 135. But lesser doesn't mean unneeded!

Maybe one day I'll be able to borrow or hire one and find out.

I wouldn't hesitate on buying the Sigma over the Sony if I was wanting to save a bit of cash. The majority of their lenses are excellent and the Sigma 500 F5.6 pretty much lives on my A1 these days.
