I admit it. It was a mistake. I have no one else to blame.

The 28-70 arrived at my local dealer today. They received all their pre-orders and a few more.

I had dropped in to discuss trading in a lens, and I tried the new one on an A9 III. Big mistake. Huge mistake.

It's extremely fast to focus, and sharp as I can see, even at f/2.

I was meant to have a shoot this afternoon, but had to call it off because of the weather. So maybe I could say it was a moment of weakness. After all, I'd already decided that I didn't want this lens, right? OK, I had worked out that I could afford it after getting a decent trade in on my A1. But...

Anyway now I own one. I have a shoot coming up on Friday, so I'll have a chance to try it out. Looking forward to it. Might take it out for a bit of a play tomorrow. It's not replacing a 24-70 f/2.8 - I haven't owned a 24-70 in maybe 14 years? I did get the 20-70 early last year.

Has anyone else succumbed to its siren song?

I can say that I have not had any interest in that lens as of yet. Given my styles of photography I am not sure that this lens will fall into one that would be useful to me.

It's not a lens that appeals to me even if I had the money burning a hole in my pocket. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your shots though Tony :)

I've had a 24-70 or equivalent for the last 20 years or more and I use the wide end a lot. I think I would find 28mm a bit restrictive these days.

I have only just got the Sony 24-70 g2 after managing with the Zeiss 24-70 g2 2.8 a-mount on the lea-5 adaptor before it died in Malta this year, I also have used the Zeiss e-mount f4 24-70 since launch day, it doe`s not owe me anything but has its limits. I mainly use 24-70 for travel so I like the wider 24 over 28, and that 28-70 is a lot to pay for what is a little used focal length for me. I bought the a7r5 and got the 24-70 g2 added for little more than the cost of the sigma 24-70 g2 so happy days

I was wondering what might be a good subject for this lens.

Here are some shots taken at an exhibition called Piinpi - it's an exhibition of contemprary fashion from indigenous designers in Australia. I think the garments are beautiful, but photographing them was somewhat challenging. Not a genre in which I have experience.

I deliberately shot all of these at f/2, but the other settings were experiments, Each of these images is the full frame from the camera. I have resized them to 2000 pixels high because that's the limit here.

Edited to add: that's odd - I thought I'd inserted the full size images into the post, but they came up as links. I must have made a mistake somewhere.
