Sony A1 Sony A1 Firmware Update 1.10

Sony has released firmware version 1.10 for the A1. The firmware appears to fix the reported IBIS issues.

Benefits and Improvements​

• Improves overall AF performance and stability
• Improves operability when using the Remote Camera Tool app
  Note: Make sure you have updated the Remote Camera Tool app to the most recent version
• Improves eye sensor detection performance with strong light sources, such as sunlight
• Improves operational stability when using the Imaging Edge Mobile apps
• Improves operational stability when using the SEL100400GM, SEL200600G, or SEL600F40GM lens
• Improves the overall stability of the camera

Firmware Download​

You can download the latest firmware from your local Sony support site. The below links will take you to the correct page to download the firmware. Make sure that you download the correct firmware for your computer (Windows or Mac).

Important note: Make sure that you read the install instructions, especially for Mac. You will need the latest Sony Camera Driver as well for a successful install on MacOS 10.14, 10.15, 11. Also note that the Sony Camera Driver is not currently supporting the Apple M1 chips.

I can confirm the "eye sensor detection performance with strong light sources" issue is completly solved now.
No matter how hard I tried I could not get the viewfinder to go blind with the sun as it would happen easily before this upgrade. Will make for a great A1 usability improvement on my morning west coast surf shoots.

I had no trouble with installing the firmware update, but I had Adobe Bridge misbehave afterwards. I'd recommend that Mac users restart their Mac after running the update. Once restarted, Adobe Bridge worked as normal again. I think that Sony driver is the issue.

Has anyone had the following problem with the A1. When shooting video, at 4K HVCA S 4k 60p 10:2:2, the manual exposure doesn't stay consistent. It's really strange. My exposure seems to remain the same (at least it says so) but when I pan from a light area to a dark area, the exposure changes. When I pan from light to dark, it gets darker and when I pan from dark to light, it gets lighter. So I'm thinking it's not the exposure, but some kind of algorithm to try to make the image look better? Except it looks worse. I haven't changed any settings from the standard firmware 1.10. I thought it could be the AWB, but no, it happens when white balance is set to a fixed temperature. I'm going to try to reset it and see if that fixes the problem, but I don't think so. I think it might be a firmware problem because I didn't have it with the previous firmware. This problem makes my $7000 investment completely useless for video.

I solved the problem with chat tech support. I seems like the Mark Galer presets I had installed had corrupted my camera, even though i had removed them. I had to do a factory reset. It was translating the viewfinder brightness into video recording brightness, go figure.
