Sony is teasing a new Alpha product announcement on January 26 on their Sony Camera Channel. Very little information is shared by Sony regarding the announcement. There’s just a single catchphrase: ‘The one never seen’ that is overlaid on the video placeholder along with the video description...

The catchphrase: ‘The one never seen’ certainly raises some eyebrows!

Are we going to be seeing the first consumer camera with a global shutter?

If Canon is going to release an R1 this year then they will probably be trying to get the jump on them, that's also rumored to have a global shutter.

If this camera is a big step up on the a9 then it might be a new series all together or perhaps an a9R.

What is a global shutter?

Global Shutter: Image sensors with a global shutter allow all of the pixels to accumulate a charge with the exposure starting and ending at the same time. At the end of the exposure time the charge is read out simultaneously. In turn, the image has no motion blur on moving objects.

Which is very cool, if it works!

Global shutter would be great and make everything better ,dynamic range would of course be improved ( 20 stops) ?and iso would be better not just the rolling shutter effect that lives in every camera to date leaf shutters are best in this respect ,but hard and expensive make and will never do 20-30 fps.

From what I've read a curved sensor would need new lenses, so probably not. A new sensor definitely I would imagine.
