Well cicadas cre the only insects I can find right now. If I do happen to find something else the cicadas scare everything off. So enjoy. I wanted to try out my new Laowa 100mm 2X macro lens before the rains came.

I really like that first one (non-cicada).
I was curious, did you do these hand-held or with a tripod?
My shots at 1/60 are usually blurry when hand-held 😅

These are all done handheld. 1/60, ISO 100, f8 (I think) and I was using a Meike 320S speed light flash with a simple diffuser. I believe my flash was on manual mode at 1/8th or 1/32 I cant remember. The down side to using a manual lens as I can't remember my settings for specific photos, lol.

Nice shots, Jessica; especially handheld. Good job! We didn't get them here in Illinois for some reason, so I have no cicada shots.

Hmmm.... I didn't know cicadas played poker together in Indiana. Do they do Bingo also on Sunday nights?

I think they just started Bingo on Sundays and they play a little euchre as well.

I think the brood x cicada invasion has finally moved on. But they really did a number on my Chaste Tree, little bastards!

That's a shame! Do they eat leaves or purple blossoms? Will the tree survive for next year?

Nice pics, they are kind of like plant Piranhas. Eat everything.
They didn't bother our 2 Gingko trees.

We just planted the tree last year. It hasn't bloomed yet this year, but it's about to. They laid eggs inside of branches. That will kill the branch at the point of the eggs. It will die and fall off at which time the larva will burrow into the ground and hide for another 17 years (or something like that, lol.). We'll just have to wait and see how much dies.

Sorry for the low quality phone pics, it's getting dark here and didn't want to attempt macro with my "real camera". Those are where the cicada laid eggs. So in theory everything up from those marks will die... Crossing my fingers I'm wrong.

Sad! When it comes right down to it, the ancient sages are right. Life and nature is the cosmic dance of creation and destruction. Thus, our eventual intuitive wisdom questions whether it’s worth the fight we wage to win. And this is a microcosm of this dance.
