Wow! These little boogers are fast! I was lucky to snag one while it buzzed around the flowers (aka 'weeds') in my backyard! I'm hoping to snag an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (official butterfly of Virginia) once the sunflowers have started to bloom.

Yes, they are difficult to catch on the fly. Even more so when you don't have enough flowers for them to pitch on. I have some flying around in my backyard, but they don't stay long since we're in a dry spell and I have no flowers for them to gravitate towards. Maybe I'll take some inspiration from your efforts and try later today.
 
I just noticed I also captured a 'bonus bug' - a fly on the blade of grass in the lower left quadrant of the 1st pic.


That's some pretty impressive resolution considering I was sitting 20+ feet away.
