We've snapped a Tawny owl in the garden on the security cam a few times late at night. Luckily last night he/she visited just after 10pm so I was able to grab a couple of shots with the help of the little light that we had left at that time. I don't normally process a great deal but I did throw these through DeNoise just to see how they would come out. I had to boost the exposure a little too.

Cheers Kev! I was definitely chuffed to see him, grabbing the shots was a bonus. The blackbirds were making a right racket when he was about, so I'll be listening out for them more now.

Nice results Tim! De-noise tools are an absolute godsend nowadays.

Cheers Chris! I try not to use it if I can help it but these definitely needed a little extra work.

If you ever dust off your a6400, you'll find that the denoise is essential to making those photos pop. My only problem with the de-noise I use (ON1) is that it over-sharpens some details like feathers.

Back again over the weekend. Looks like they had eaten recently.

Turns out our tawny has an owlet :)

This was taken late last night. They were making a right racket.

Then I went out this evening to feed the birds and could hear him calling but couldn't see him. So I grabbed my camera and had a look around and finally spotted him half asleep in an oak tree.

Great shots, especially at 22:00!

Amazing shots Tim of a beautiful bird, especially in that light.
Cheers John. They are lovely to watch. Not so lovely to listen to when they are screeching at night though. We have to close the windows sometimes!

Hi Tim, looks like you live on the edge of a woodland area, so good you've got tawnies must be great to see the owlet grow up. Do you want to do a house swap 🤔.

We live on the side of Titterstone Clee Hill in Shropshire so are fortunate to have woods, common and lots of open space around us. If your house is worth a few million then we could be tempted! :) Hopefully we never have to move again as it was 12 months of stress buying this place!

I captured a short video as well. I was only using the internal mic so the sound quality isn't the best. Unfortunately a sleepy owl doesn't make for the most exciting of videos!

Thanks for sharing the video Tim, yes i recently used the video on my A9ii and the sound is very poor but I very rarely use it. Don't think our three bedroomed semi is worth a few million, never mind.

The Rode VideoMic Pro works really well, I was just too lazy to go and find it. I expect there are plenty of 3 bed semi’s in London worth millions! Ours is 3 bed too so definitely no more kids! Luckily prices around here are more reasonable than down South but still too high for many.

Must admit it would be interesting to try out the external sound recording possibilities. Have got a few different rigs that I used when I did steam lineside recordings so may give it a try one day, just that it's more luggage to carry around. The Rode is certainly an option.
