Group, I know this has come up before but I tire of getting fab out of camera images with basic settings with my Nikon, while my Sony requires many adjustments for a similar look. What are others doing to get good out of camera images with people, specifically model and portrait shooting? Thanks:)

Welcome to the forum.
Do you mean the straight-out-of-camera JPGs? If so, maybe you could benefit from editing a custom profile so you can bake in those +/- values on contrast, saturation, sharpness etc.?

Sorry for not specifying, I mean RAW images processed through LR and Photoshop CC. The RAW image colors are still not an easy base line to get close to eliminating color casting or even to be a pleasing neutral like the ones from Nikon or Canon.

I have an A7RV but I'm not much of a people photographer. I haven't been able to fault the colours from this camera myself. Do you have any example images we can view. I attended a Sony trade show in Sydney about a month or so ago & while there took about a dozen pics of a model. I haven't done any processing to them yet but straight out of camera they look pretty good to me.

Also, what Profile are you using in Lightroom/ACR?

they are very accurate on the A7r5 but if you want to get more of your preference there are a ton of options ,i normally play to begin with camera profiles portrait ,natural and standard in lightroom ,but there are so many variables wb in camera can play a factor auto wb may not be your best option , there are a thousand and one presets from different sources and platforms ,even srgb and adobe rgb will give something else ,a lot say capture one gives the best sony colours .in the end it will be subjective

You can play with Creative Looks in-camera but these only apply to JPEG images and RAW preview images, they won't apply to the actual RAW files. Making changes to the gamma values of the Picture Profiles can impact RAW images, but possibly won't achieve what you are looking for.

It might be worth experimenting with some Presets. I've not researched these since I don't shoot people very often. I know Manny Ortiz sells them and I expect there are many others out there. https://www.manuelortizphoto.com/presets .. I couldn't tell you if they are any good though!

This video from Gerald provides some more insight on the Picture Profiles:

This is an image for which auto white balance proved to be especially difficult. I was stunned by how pleasing the OC image was when shooting the Nikon Z8. I will try using the profiles for some comparisons.

I posted something today and I use the Cobalt profiles/portrait and that has been helpful.
