Let's say you have a custom button set to Tracking ON. What are some examples of when you would use that to turn Tracking ON doing birds in flight, compared to not turning it on.

I only use it to track fast moving, smaller birds, basically anything I can't manually pan to keep up with, as I find centre focus to be the most accurate on the A7R4. I suspect it's different for A9/A1 users though, because they have a better AF system when it comes to tracking, especially with eye AF on the A1. Ultimately I guess it depends on your camera and skill level.

As a general rule you should have your camera set up to enable a range of your most frequently settings which can be implemented or changed quickly by dedicated camera buttons or through the fn menu(Sony ar7iv/v or a9 or A1)or worst case the via MyMenu access.

In my opinion for flying birds against a sky or well in front of background objects(trees, bldgs, tall grass etc) tracking Wide, Zone or expanded large spot
are ok(bird eye focussing will be more difficult using expanded spot for flying birds)...whilst for static or small birds within trees or clsoe to nearby objects, if you have an expectation of them flying off and would want to catch them, tracking spot or expanded spot is ok and better to avoid any local/nearbye objects which could deflect your focus.

I have a custom key assigned to "tracking on toggle". This allows me to track a specific plane in a formation group. But sometimes, I lose that tracking, and it starts tracking something else (say another plane in the formation). A quick double click of my assigned button (thus tracking off/on) and I can re-acquire the desired airplane.

Just a question on eye A/F in conjunction with the A9II as it doesn't have a bird setting it only offers human and animal . Regarding birds in flight has anyone who has a A1 tried either of these settings which presumably it has . Would be interested to know if they noticed a difference when doing birds in flight .
