Here are some photos from the Zig Zag heritage railway. This is located on the western edge of the Blue Mountains near Lithgow. The zig zag was built in order to get trains up and down the western side of the mountains. When it became too much of a bottle neck and they decided to bypass it, it took ten tunnels to do so. The railway only got up and running again about six moths ago after being destroyed twice by bushfires.
The day we went was quite overcast, rainy and cold. The train was sold out so it wasn't really possible to wander around & get good shots from the train. There are two sandstone viaducts on the line but unfortunately we were sitting on the wrong side of the train. There is a lookout at one point that gives a good view of one of the viaducts but it was barricaded off for some reason.
