Sony A7 IV 4.0 won't update

My A7 IV currently has version 1.11. I formated a SD card in the camera, downloaded the 4.0 update, copied it to the SD card. Put it in the camera slot 1, the "update" button is greyed out, and when I select it it says "no media in Slot 1" I've deleted and redownloaded V4.0 several times and can't get the camera to recognize it. Any help or ideas to try would be very much appreciated. I've tried putting the DAT file just on the card, insdie the private folder that is there after formatting, in the "root" folder, all with zero luck.

I think I figured it out. For some reason, when I downloaded the DAT file for V 4.0 there was a (1) added. I removed the (1) from the name and the camera recognized it right away. It appears to be updating now.

Yes. The firmware files need to be named correctly.

For some reason, when I downloaded the DAT file for V 4.0 there was a (1) added.

That would usually mean that a file of the same name already existed, so your system added a "1" rather than overwrite the previous file. If the update files always have the same name, then this is to be watched out for.
