Hi there,

There is one thing that's been bothering me for a while so I thought I better ask if there is a workaround.
When using the viewer sometime my monitor turns itself off so to have it on again I have to close the monitor, press focus button which engages the camera turning the viewer on.
After that, if I open the monitor it comes on.
Is there a way around this, I find it frankly annoying to have to close the monitor, press focus button, wait for the viewer to engage then open the monitor again.
Is there a way to keep the monitor on all the time even when using the viewer to take photos?

Best regards

The A7RV isn't an A-mount camera (it's E mount, like all current Sony bodies, unless the A99 is still hanging on?).

You should not need to close and open the screen - pressing the focus button should be all you need. If you do nothing, the screen will time out, but pressing any button should wake it up.

My bad, apologies.

Well, it doesn't happen for some reason.
The only way to get the screen going again is to close it, press focus button to use the viewer then open the screen and then it works again but I really don't want to keep doing this.

In setup > Select Finder/Monitor there are three settings 1) Auto (current), 2) VF (Manual) 3) Monitor (Manual). I will play with those and see if that works.

You definitely want that one in Auto.

In Setup (yellow/mustard men) - submenu 8 Power Setting Menu, you probably want:

  • Auto Monitor OFF set to Does not turn OFF
  • Power Save by Monitor set to Does Not Link (these relate to whether opening the monitor turns the camera on, and closing the monitor turns the camera off. Does Not Link disables both.

You might also consider the Power Save Start Time in the same submenu - I have mine set to 1 minute, but you can consider setting it to longer (try the other changes first)

The one that will do the trick is Power Save by Monitor, Does Not Link by the looks of it, exactly what I am looking for.
Let's see how this works out.

Thanks very much for your time, much appreciated.
