Birds Birds in Flight Thread - Post Your Shots Here

Just Two Limpkin that wouldn't stop Flying - I always tell photography students to practice photographing birds in flight. Shoot what's flying by you! White birds , brown birds any color birds. Learn to adjust your camera on the fly. Well, as I was waiting this afternoon I thought I'd practice. Images captured in South Florida on March 1, 2024. Camera: Sony Apha 1 + FE 600mm f/2.8 GM.

The Red Headed Woodpecker asked the Red Bellied Woodpecker to get off of his tree. So he did. Not the best photo, but an unusual one for sure.

Hooded Merganser through the Mangroves ! I was way "under lensed" when I ran across these ducks. Thick cloud cover caused very low light conditions. Sony a9iii + FE 300mm f/2.8 + FE 1.4x Extender. 420mm ISO 5000 f/8.0 1/4000 March 4, 2024 Image taken in SW Florida

Wow, both absolutely epic pictures. The first one is my favourite.

Not normally birds I photograph much, but there was a bit of waiting around in hides today, so I grabbed some flight shots of gulls (of which there were hundreds!) That look says it all...

This drake was just checking out the new nest box with his hen. They flew down to the water and promptly mated. I guess they liked their new apartment!

These are my first ever BIF shots. Taken on my few days away down the coast last week. I had hoped there would be more birds in the air but they were letting water out of the barrage so most of them were in the water fishing.

Good birds to start with. Next try ducks.

Illusion of Speed"

Yesterday I was at Valleyfield Pond 10 mins walk from my house to see if I could see the resident kingfisher's....I met another photographer and we had a good old blether.

I wanted to try to create the "Illusion" of the speed that they fly so opted for a slow shutter speed to create this effect."

I don't know if that says speed to me, but it does say impressionistic beauty.

Lovely creation.

White-bellied Sea Eagle.
Mersey River Devonport Tasmania.
WOW! I reckon you'd be pretty lucky to even see one of these in the wild yet alone take such a great photo of it.
