Birds Birds in Flight Thread - Post Your Shots Here

Australia's largest Eagle which is the sad for these shots as it was moving away and I am still learning inflight stuff.
So I am sorry for the poor quality, but it is always good, as I see it to get a shot of one.
Only wished these were far better, as the shot were a long way from it.

You got to start someplace and you will never stop taking crap photos of BiF you just get more winners among the crap.

WOW! I reckon you'd be pretty lucky to even see one of these in the wild yet alone take such a great photo of it.
Interesting you should say that as they are quite common in the NW of Tasmania. There are a number of family groups not far from where I live.

Yes, the secret is to only show the good stuff!

You're very lucky. I believe there are some around the Coorong but rarely seen. I have some pics of a rescued one on Kangaroo Island many years ago. They are beautiful birds.

Boat-tailed Grackle - I watched this bird for several minutes perched on a tree branch. The blues were glowing in the sunlight. I decided to photograph it when it took flight. Boat-tailed Grackles have 10 or more songs, but the meanings of the different song types are not well understood. Males sing throughout the year, and females rarely sing. Snail Kite Challenge - with the winds blowing 25-35mph, I knew the Kits were going to have some difficulty locating Apple Snails. I decided to only photograph them low to the water surface or in a tight turn. These birds are quite the acrobat and they did not disappoint. Image

Snail Kite Pair Interaction - here is another image from today's series. I have never witnessed two Snail Kites interacting, I'm very thankful I was able to photograph it. Image taken in Lee County, FL. on March 30, 2024 Camera: Sony Alpha 1 + FE 600mm f/4 GM

Another White-bellied Sea Eagle in flight.
Mersey River Devonport Tasmania.
I think I'm going to have to try to find one of these sea eagles. I need to do some more research...

I hope this is the right place for these Birds in Flight shots.
I put the type of birds in the photo.

After a long period of not seeing him, I was delighted this morning to watch and photograph our resident Great Blue Heron in flight:

Running or Flying - Common Gallinule - they have long toes that make it possible to walk on soft mud and floating vegetation. The toes have no lobes or webbing to help with swimming, but the gallinule is a good swimmer anyway. This one acutually looks like it's running on top of the water. Nice shots, but they don’t look like sparrows to me. Martins maybe?

Thank you, you are correct not a sparrow but tree swallow. I originally thought purple martin also but they do not have a white breast. I am not a bird expert so I could be wrong.

Barred Owl - The silent flyer! They can pass by completely unnoticed as it flies. They are close to noiseless. Barred Owls are able to move at slower speeds without flapping, and the structure of their feathers acts as a silencer. They have comb-like serrations on their wing feathers that break up the air that creates the typical swoosh sound. Image taken in Central, Florida. This one is in between "birds in flight" and "birds not in flight". But I'll give the little guy a flight credit here, juvenile osprey practicing future skills and almost ready to leave the nest. Shelter Island, San Diego CA.
