Sony Alpha Rumors reported that a new camera and new lens will be announced in the coming months before end of year. Anyone care to wager what camera body it will be? A7V? A1-II? Will Sony never jump on the bandwagon for a compact fixed lens camera again? Anyone hoping to see something or disappointed they haven't seen anything announced yet?

Seems it could be a1 mk2 with more speed! that is a a9iii isn`t it :) as for fixed lens compact they had the rx1 and rx2 great cameras but stupidly pricey, last one 3k and still they cannot keep the dust off the sensor, had 2, been there and done it

There has been speculation about an A1 mk2 for some time, which I hope comes soon.

I am hoping for an A1II. Just a gut sense, it seems quick for the A7V, but I don't have sales numbers for the A7IV and don't know how well it competes against other brands.

They just did a major software update for the A7IV, so I assume they are trying to extend its shelf-life.
In which case, A1-II does indeed make the most sense.

If it is indeed the A1 II then I’m not sure what they would need to add to convince me to upgrade. It’s already an amazing camera. Pre-capture would be nice to have but I’m not going to spend thousands for it.

Exactly the same, well almost. I don't want precapture, is cheating.

The new focus chip.
The new rear screen
The sloping front shutter button (heck, the entire A9 III body!) - maybe even the turbo button?

Then we get into speculation - might it have a new sensor? Will it shoot faster? Will it shoot at its top speed without requiring the use of lossy compression? Might it get V4 CFexpressA slots for faster buffer clearing?

Hard to guess what might convince people to upgrade, really. They did too good a job on the Mark I :D :ROFLMAO:

Yes, it’s cheating. No, I am not going to turn it off! This is one kind of cheating I like!

I would buy a new version of the RX1RII in a second, I am sure it would be weather sealed this time. Even at that $3,000 price tag it was bargain compared to the Leica Q

I have no problem with using tech to help get the shot. People probably said the same when autofocus was introduced :)

I can't see it being any other camera the the A1 II, but will it appeal? They admitted they made it so good originally that it was hard to follow. There may be tweeks to AF since I guess, and maybe make it 60mp or more. I 've never been bothered about pre capture, we still haven't worked out how to use it on Sue's Olympus!

Just about due. It's been an unusual slow 2024 for Sony.

I have no problem with you having no problem.

It's not really a fair comparison though, without autofocus I couldn't take photographs, I struggled at 21, roll on a few decades and I don't stand a chance. It is still me taking the shot though.

All these arguments are the same, opinions. Every one has one, and they're entitled to possess it. Vive la difference!

Yes and the same frame rate dial with that nice * option.

That would be a disappointment on many levels :p:LOL:

I am surprised that anyone would regard precapture as cheating. For me it would be a very helpful tool, and It will have a large bearing on whether I buy the A1 mk2. And anyway, if God did not want us to cheat he would not have given us Photoshop!

I don't use that either!

Canon rumors suggest that the R6 Mark III will be arriving early 2025, so we could possibly see the A7 V announced, especially with the A7 IV approaching 3 years old now which these days makes it a dinosaur. I don't think Sony is worrying too much about the R1 eating into their A1 sales, especially with the A9 III available. I wonder if the A7 V will go with a stacked sensor and also shutterless? Especially with all the shutter failures seen in the A7 III and to a lesser extent the IV.

Or a camera, what's wrong with pen and pencil? :)

I know, it wasn't exactly a fair comparison :)

How could you suggest that the R1 isn't a threat to the A1? If we don't maintain that myth, Sony won't release the A1 II, and we want them to do that!

(some of us want the A1 II, others want the A1 to drop in price)

That's the interesting question: going fully stacked might make it rather expensive, which seems to fly in the face of it being the entry-level full-frame body. But people will argue that one of the others went partly stacked so the A7V has to go fully stacked.

Going shutterless requires a heavier-duty stacked sensor - the A1 could have gone shutterless with its fast sensor. The A9 I and II weren't fast enough (the A9 III, of course, cannot have a shutter).

The partially stacked sensor isn't nowhere near fast enough to go shutterless.

The rumour about 19 November has been updated to suggest that whatever is going to be announced will be expensive.

Could be the A1 mark II with a new sensor - perhaps 96Mp? Or stay around 50Mp, but up it to 50fps without requiring lossy compressed for the highest speed?

Could be an FX6 mark II or a FX9 mark II (not exciting for me, but definitely expensive!)

Could it be an ultra high end A0 model?

Ideas?

I'll join the rest of the sour grapes in Andrea's comment section and say A1-II with the same hardware + an AI chip :ROFLMAO:
I'm not in the market for anything new, but as I said before I would really like to see Sony get back into competition with the fixed lens camera trend. You think they're avoiding it because it will hurt A7C sales? or lens sales?

15 minutes ago SAR posted that it will be the A1-II and 28-70 f/2.0

I saw that. And more expensive. Ouch!

It does say faster frame rate, though. Sony did say that the first A1 had not pushed the sensor to its limits, so maybe this one can achieve 40 or 50 or even 60fps with it? (60 would be really nice, and would match up with the A9 III = 24Mp x 120fps vs 50Mp x 60fps...)

It does say A9 III body, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

It does say CFexpressA V4, which would be welcome. I have the 480GB Prograde V4 card, and it genuinely does run over twice the speed of the V2 cards.

Now we wait 3 weeks to discover the full details. I think this is announcement I'll want to watch.

@AlphaWorld agreed, besides it wouldn't be profitable to abandon the current sensor. Sony probably needs to use their sensors more than twice per product lifecycle to break even.

A1 mk2 over kill again, who needs more speed, more frame rate, pre-capture, who is driving user or camera? They made the a1 mk1 worse with lack of software updates and some of the updates in my opinion made it worse for sure. I will not buy in ,most Sony users would be better off buying higher quality glass, for sure most of us me included do not even come close to using the full potential of the camera bodies we have now

Anyone want to guess the price of the new A1 mk2 £ 7k-8k ?

I'd love to predict it will the same as the opening price of the original A1 - I'd be delighted if that turns out to be the case.

I'm certain I've never used all the features of any of my digital cameras. Fairly sure that applies to every film camera I've owned, too, with the possible exception of the plastic camera (using 120 film) that I was given in my early teens. That camera had almost no controls apart from the shutter and the film rewind :)
